The second development involves the shocking and aggressive behavior of Councilmember Stephen Kraft towards residents. After our most recent council meeting, Dr. Kraft became agitated while in a conversation with a Flynn Park mother and threw a water bottle. A University City police officer was concerned enough that he offered her an escort out of City Hall. This unacceptable behavior follows on the heels of his use of profanity directed at a citizen during an earlier meeting, which was immediately followed by his denial of his actions. How can this be happening in University City? The majority of this Council has refused to even consider that we have a serious problem.
In response to these developments, Councilmember Crow and I have requested (under our current Council Rules) the following items be placed on the agenda:
1) A discussion regarding Councilmember Kraft’s conduct;
2) The resolutions you requested of us, which were twice, wrongfully removed;
3) Citizen comments. This should be allowed before any votes are taken.
I will be forever grateful for the trust my constituents placed in me, and the belief they have in themselves. I need your help. Your family, friends and neighbors need to know what is going on. Please share this message with them. Please tell your Councilmembers how you feel about the two developments. Please be at City Hall this Monday, June 16th at 5:30PM (one hour earlier than usual). Don’t let the council change it’s rules and ignore Councilmember Kraft's egregious behavior out of public view. Frankly, with the exisiting majority of 5 in lockstep, I don’t know that this can be stopped, but we need you to be there as a witness to this abuse of power. When the Council votes to remove the rights of the minority in University City, it silences you, silences me and radically changes the core values of our diverse and inclusive community.
